If your document has attached Google files (such as Google documents, spreadsheets or presentations) they're stored in Google Drive and are owned by your library's AODocs storage account.
You can create attached Google files in any type of library that uses Google Drive storage:
- Team Folders
- Secured Folders
- Document Management libraries

Attached files are listed in the sidebar of your document. In Document Management libraries you can also access attached files in the Properties tab, under Attached files.
When your document has attached Google files, you can open the attached file in the Google editor. You can then perform AODocs actions in the Google editor.

Note: There are some minor limitations when working with attached Google files in the AODocs document editor.
Open attached Google files in the Google editor
1. Open a document in any type of library that uses Google Drive storage.
2. In the sidebar, click the Open in a new tab button next to an attached Google file. A new tab opens and the attached file is displayed in the Google editor.
Important: To benefit from AODocs features in the Google editor, install the AODocs Smartbar.
Navigate using the breadcrumb
The breadcrumb indicates where the attached file is located: its document and its library.
When you click an item in the breadcrumb, the corresponding page opens:
- in the AODocs interface for Document Management libraries
- in Google Drive for Team Folders and Secured Folders
Access all the attached files in your document
Note: This feature is available only for Document Management libraries.
In the Google editor, open the Attached file menu and select an attached file. A new tab opens, displaying the attached file in the Google editor.
Note: The Attached file menu displays the number of attached files of the document.
Display and edit properties and workflows
1. In the Google editor, click the Show / Edit file properties & workflow button. A dialog opens, displaying the document's:
- system properties
- custom properties
- workflow state
2. If you are a workflow participant in the document, you can perform workflow actions from this dialog.
Note: When you have a pending workflow action to perform on the document, a red dot appears on the Show / Edit file properties & workflow button.
3. If you are a contributor of the document, you can click the Edit document properties button to update the values of the custom properties.
