Preview attached files

An attached file is a file that is attached to an AODocs document. Learn more: What are attached files?

To view your attached files you can use the following viewers embedded in AODocs:

  • Google Drive preview
  • Advanced viewer

Note: The advanced viewer isn’t available for external users. Learn more: Access an AODocs library as an external user.

Notes:
– All attached files displayed in the advanced viewer and non-Google attached files displayed in the Google Drive preview are read-only, even if you have edit rights on the AODocs document.
– You can download attached files from AODocs documents and the advanced viewer. Learn more: Download attached files.
– If you have the Universal File Opener installed, you can open non-Google attached files in their corresponding software directly from your AODocs document. Learn more: What is the Universal File Opener (UFO)?


Use the Google Drive preview in libraries using Google Drive

1. Open an AODocs document in a Document Management library using Google Drive.

2. Click the attached files you want to preview.

  • Google files, such as Google documents, spreadsheets and presentations open in the Google Drive editor embedded in AODocs. You can edit these files directly in the Google Drive editor.
  • Non-Google attached files supported by the Google Drive preview (such as PDF files, PNG files and Microsoft files) open in the Google Drive preview embedded in AODocs. You can't edit these files in the Google Drive preview.

Use the advanced viewer

The following types of attached file open in the advanced viewer embedded in your AODocs document:

       CAD files


AutoDesk AutoCAD format version 2.5 through 2014 (*.dwg, *.dxf)
AutoDesk Design Web format (*.dwf)
MicroStation Drawing format V7 and V8 (*.dgn)

       Email files


Microsoft Outlook format (*.msg)
Outlook Express Email format (*.eml)

       Medical image files


Digital Imaging & Communication in Medicine format (*.dcm, *.dicom, *.dcim, *.dicm)

       Visio files *.vsd, *.vsdx, *.vsdm, *.vdx
       HTML files *.html, *.htm, *.xhtml, *.xhtm

Notes:
– This is not an exhaustive list.
– If your attached file is not supported by the advanced viewer, when you click the attached file it is downloaded.

In libraries using Google Drive

1. Open an AODocs document in any type of library using Google Drive.

2. Click the attached file you want to preview.

In libraries using other storage platforms

Use the advanced viewer to view your documents in libraries using storage platforms such as Google Cloud Storage or Azure Blob Storage.  

1. Open an AODocs document in a Document Management library using Google Cloud Storage or Azure Blob Storage.

2. Select the attached file you want to preview.

Note: If your attached file is not supported by the advanced viewer, when you click the attached file it is downloaded.

Autodesk files

You can display Autodesk files using Autodesk Viewer, which is embedded in the advanced viewer.

Autodesk Viewer supports many file formats, including DWG, STEP, DWF and RVT.

You can access all Autodesk Viewer features, for example, rotate the camera around a 3D view, take measurements and explore the 3D model as if you were walking through it.
