Get your AODocs domain ready without Google Workspace

This article is for Microsoft 365 administrators and future AODocs super administrators. It explains what AODocs needs to create your AODocs domain if your organization doesn't use Google Workspace, and what your domain looks like once it's created.

You don't need a Microsoft tenant either: Microsoft is one of several sign-in methods you can choose.

Information to send to AODocs

Contact AODocs Support or your AODocs sales representative and send the following:

Information Example
Domain name yourcompany.com
Domain owner: the person who will administer AODocs owner@yourcompany.com
Sign-in methods your users will use Microsoft, email and password, Okta, SAML, Google
Storage platforms your libraries will use SharePoint Embedded, Azure Blob Storage, AODocs Managed Cloud, Google Cloud Storage, Amazon S3
Additional email domain, if some of your users have emails on it (optional) sub.yourcompany.com

You can choose several sign-in methods and several storage platforms. Choose at least one of each. Each library uses one of the storage platforms of your domain, selected when the library is created.

Choose the domain owner

The domain owner's email address must be on your domain, or on the additional email domain you provide at the same time.

Domain Domain owner Additional email domain Accepted?
yourcompany.com owner@yourcompany.com (none) Yes
yourcompany.com owner@sub.yourcompany.com sub.yourcompany.com Yes
yourcompany.com owner@sub.yourcompany.com (none) No
yourcompany.com owner@othercompany.com (any) No

Tip: We recommend a domain owner on your main domain, for example owner@yourcompany.com.

Choose the sign-in methods

Only the sign-in methods you choose appear on your AODocs sign-in page.

Sign-in method Notes
Microsoft Users sign in with their Microsoft account. To also synchronize users and groups from Microsoft Entra ID, link your Microsoft tenant to AODocs: contact AODocs Support with your Microsoft tenant ID. Linking the tenant also turns on user and group synchronization. The person linking the tenant must have one of these Microsoft Entra roles: Global Administrator, Privileged Role Administrator, Cloud Application Administrator, or Application Administrator.
Email and password Users sign in with an email address and a password.
Okta Users sign in through Okta. Learn more: Configure Okta Single Sign-On (SSO) for AODocs
SAML Users sign in through your SAML identity provider. AODocs configures SAML sign-in for you: contact AODocs Support.
Google Users sign in with a Google Account.

What your domain looks like

When AODocs has created your domain:

  • it's active, on a 14-day trial – to move to a paid subscription or manage your licenses, contact AODocs Support or your AODocs sales representative
  • the domain owner is its only super administrator – add other super administrators manually, they aren't synchronized from your directory: Manage AODocs super administrators
  • no demo library is created

Differences with a Google Workspace domain

  • No Google Drive storage. You can create only Document Management libraries using object storage (SharePoint Embedded, Azure Blob Storage, AODocs Managed Cloud, Google Cloud Storage or Amazon S3). Team Folders, Secured Folders and Document Management libraries using Google Drive aren't available.
  • No AODocs storage account to configure. The domain owner's account is used where a Google Workspace domain uses its AODocs storage account, for example for system tasks.
  • No Google Workspace settings. There is no Google Workspace admin to define and no Google Workspace Marketplace app to install.

Important: AODocs uses the domain owner account for system tasks: keep it active. To change the domain owner, for example when that person leaves your organization, contact AODocs Support.

Check your new domain

  1. The domain owner opens AODocs and signs in with one of the selected methods.
  2. The sign-in page shows exactly the methods you chose.
  3. The domain owner sees the tenant administration as super administrator.
