Edit attached Microsoft Office files with the Microsoft 365 online editors

An attached file is a file that is attached to an AODocs document. Attached Microsoft Office files can be stored in Google Drive or in object storage: SharePoint Embedded, Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage.

In AODocs, you can edit attached Microsoft Office files using Microsoft 365 online editors. In Document Management libraries using SharePoint Embedded, Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage (including AODocs Managed Cloud), attached Microsoft Office files open automatically in the Microsoft 365 online editors. There is nothing to activate. They open in edit mode or view mode, depending on your rights on the document. In libraries using Google Drive, the Microsoft 365 online editors aren’t used. The feature is available for customers with an active AODocs Content Services license. Contact your AODocs sales representative or send an email to sales@aodocs.com for licensing information.

Important: All users must have an active Microsoft 365 license to edit files with the Microsoft 365 editors in AODocs. This license is often already included in standard Microsoft 365 plans.

1. Open a document containing one or more attached Microsoft Office files in a Document Management library using SharePoint Embedded, Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Storage.

2. Select the appropriate button next to the attached file in the left panel or in the Attached files panel:

  • Edit with Word for the Web for for DOCX files
  • Edit with Excel for the Web for XLSX, XLSM and XLSB files
  • Edit with Powerpoint for the Web for PPTX and PPSX files

Note: You can't edit any other file formats with the Microsoft 365 online editors in AODocs.

The attached file opens in a dedicated Microsoft viewer in a new tab.

3. Edit your attached file as required. Your changes are automatically saved.

Note: You can collaborate in attached Microsoft files with real-time co-authoring.
