What’s New
UFO in Smartbar
The Universal File Opener (UFO) is now integrated with the Smartbar!
Important: You must install the UFO extension (at least V1.1) to use it with the Smartbar V5.3.
UFO is in public beta and will be available for free during this period. After the public release, paying AODocs customers can continue to use all UFO features for as long as their AODocs subscription remains active. Other users can purchase UFO for a fee.
UFO in Smartbar allows you to open and edit non-Google files of any size (no 32 MB limit) from the Google Drive interface directly on your computer by pressing the Open file button.
If UFO isn’t installed, you will still see the Open file button on all files, but if you press the Open file button for non-Office files, a prompt containing instructions to install UFO is displayed.
If you don’t want to use UFO, there will still be some improvements to the existing Open in office feature.
In the AODocs interface, the Open in Office feature:
- no longer requires the Smartbar extension (but there is still a 32 MB limit).
- is available in any browser, not just Chrome
- doesn’t support versions of Microsoft Office older than 2010 SP2 - to work with older versions of Office, users should use UFO
In Google Drive with the Smartbar extension installed, the Open in Office feature:
- no longer requires the Webdav client to be installed
- doesn’t support versions of Microsoft Office older than 2010 SP2 - to work with older versions of Office, users should use UFO
Improvements
New design of the feature tours
You can access feature tours from the library help menu in the Google Drive interface.
Feature tour for Team Folders
New notifications and tooltip when uploading files and folders
When uploading files and folders:
- a tooltip in the upload window at the bottom right is available: "You can close this page, the import will keep on in the background”
- a confirmation popup appears when the user tries to close the Chrome tab while an upload is still in progress
Bug fixes
- The Star icon is no longer displayed on the second line in the library picker.
