The Universal File Opener (UFO) and the AODocs File Opener (AFO) are browser extensions.
- UFO is used in AODocs libraries using Google Drive. UFO is available in Google Chrome.
- AFO in AODocs libraries using Google Cloud Storage or Azure Blob storage. AFO is available in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

When installing UFO and AFO end users are asked to grant permissions on their account. Learn more: Install UFO or AFO.
Important: All the permissions listed below are subject to change in future UFO/AFO versions, depending on the requirements for new features, technical changes or new Chrome APIs. When a new version of UFO/AFO requires additional permissions, users will be prompted to authorize the new permissions before activating the new version.
The table below lists the permissions requested by UFO/AFO and the reason why they are required:

Allows UFO to add a new action button, on hover on your Google Drive items, to let you edit them with your local software programs. |

The extension can add UFO features to your Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides and Google Drawings interfaces. |

Allows UFO/AFO to create and show rich notifications in your system tray, such as the status of file synchronization and information when attempting to open a locked file. |
Communicate with cooperating websites |
Allows our OAuth2 authentication page to securely communicate with the extension (UFO only). When UFO/AFO is used in the AODocs user interface, allows communication with the extension to let you open your AODocs attachments with your local software programs. |
Communicate with cooperating native application |
Allows the extension to communicate with its local application launcher agent (UFO/AFO Sync Client), to start the appropriate application when opening a file from Google Drive (for UFO) or from the AODocs user interface (for UFO/AFO). |
