Enable Filters directly on the view columns instead of an admin-configured set of filters
Right now, if I understand correctly, in any view users can customize the columns and data that's shown in the view, but they can only apply filters for a given column of data only if the admin has happened to configure that data point in the filters for the view. I feel like it makes far more sense to just embed filtering in the column headers (mimicking what you experience when you are filtering in a spreadsheet) for any columns a user is seeing rather than the admin controlling what can and can't be filtered on.
The views are essentially a spreadsheet view of data, so I think mimicking spreadsheet filtering behavior will make intuitive sense to most users.

I concur with your perspective. In the short term, you could try changing the view to HIDE Filters by default. Then add all the available filters. Remember, in the new views, filters don't take up any real estate until you active them. Just a thought.
