Document list > Attachment thumbnail affects the display of the titles as per this screenshot:
Which means when you are skim reading through a list of titles, there is not a common starting point. The titles are pushed to the right side of the attachment thumbnail which produces a skewed reference point.
It would be ideal to have a defined space where each title begins, rather than being based on offset from the thumbnail.

Regarding the alignment, we plan to hotfix this interface issue.
We also plan to revamp the Views interface. Your suggestion about the thumbnails will be part of it.
